Optimal Bricks pipeline (Soft Clay + Fire)
TL;DR
Bricks come from Burning Squishy/Soft Clay. The cleanest end-to-end loop is Grimer + Muk (Litter clay) -> Coalossal (Gather + Burn dual-role) -> Charmeleon (dedicated Burn) -> Swalot (Storage), with one Smelting Furnace and one Community Box on the seam between the marsh habitat and the burn pen. Coalossal collapses Gather and Burn into a single Pokémon (pokedex.csv: “Burn, Gather”), so you only need to comfort-tune two Fire bodies instead of three. Comfort the Fire core to Spicy / Hot 7-10 / Low humidity 1-2 / Bright, feed Chili sauce, and stack the in-house furniture that already appears in Charmeleon’s match list (Stone fireplace, Cooking stove, Microwave oven). Heads-up: pokedex.csv has Trubbish as Recycle-only, so substitute Garbodor (Recycle, Litter) if you need a third litterer.
The build
| Pokémon | Role | Specialty (pokedex.csv) | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grimer | Litter — clay source | Litter | Brief credits Grimer/Muk for Soft/Squishy clay drops; specialty matches. |
| Muk | Litter — clay source (upgrade) | Litter | Evolution of Grimer, same Litter spec. |
| Coalossal | Gather + Burn — central hub | Burn, Gather | Only line that fuses Gather and Burn in one body; saves a comfort slot. |
| Charmeleon | Dedicated Burn — Brick smelter | Burn | Has Squishy clay in its match list (pokemon_item_matches.csv id 5). |
| Swalot | Storage sink | Storage | Canonical end-of-chain per brief; Gulpin acceptable pre-evo. |

Community Box B sits inside both the 12-tile outdoor habitat radius of the marsh G and within Coalossal C’s gather reach. Furnace F is adjacent to C and within Charmeleon’s indoor-8 comfort radius from the H house. Swalot’s store S is one tile beyond the furnace.
Expected output
No quantitative figures are present in the on-disk CSVs (production_chains.csv is referenced by the brief but is not in /tmp/pokopia-data/). Use this formula:
Bricks/hr = min(
Litter_rate(Grimer + Muk) * clay_drop_chance,
Gather_rate(Coalossal) * radius_coverage,
Burn_rate(Charmeleon + Coalossal) * furnace_count
) * (1 + ComfortMultiplier)
ComfortMultiplier caps at +50% per Pokémon (brief). Environment-Level tier multiplier (Uneasy 1× / Settled 2× / Content 3.5× / Blissful 5×) gates per-Pokémon action speed before that multiplier applies.
Comfort setup
Fire prefs from the brief:
- Temperature: Hot 7-10 (outdoor effectiveness is 50%, so plan the furnace pen indoor-adjacent)
- Humidity: Low 1-2
- Light: Bright
- Flavor: Spicy — feed Chili sauce / Spicy Meal (comfort_items.csv: “Boosts Comfort Level faster when fed as gift / meal”)
- Furniture (all in Charmeleon’s match list, so they count toward Blissful):
- Stone fireplace
- Cooking stove
- Microwave oven
- Kitchen table
- Plate
- Log Chair / Food Bowl baselines from comfort_items.csv, stacking up to +50%
Use one mini-game per Pokémon per day (3/day max gain per the brief) to climb to Blissful (5×) before scaling.
Setup steps
- Place a marsh habitat (pokedex.csv: Grimer/Muk live at “Marsh fishing spot”) at one end of the plot. Litter drops Squishy/Soft clay onto adjacent tiles.
- Place a Community Box (automation_devices.csv: Wood + Iron ingot, “Place near litters and gathers. They live in same house.”) on the seam between the marsh and the burn pen, inside the 12-tile outdoor habitat radius.
- Station Coalossal adjacent to the Community Box so its Gather sweep funnels clay into the box; it also feeds the furnace as a secondary Burner.
- Place a Smelting Furnace (automation_devices.csv: Brick + Iron ingot + Coal, “Fire Pokemon operates it. Add ore.”) within 1-2 tiles of the Community Box. Assign Charmeleon as the dedicated Burn operator.
- Build a small/medium house adjacent to the furnace so Charmeleon’s indoor-8 comfort radius covers the furnace tile. Load the house with Charmeleon’s match-list furniture.
- Drop Swalot in a small storage room one tile past the furnace; Swalot moves finished Bricks into Storage Boxes / Storage Frames.
- Comfort-tune to Fire prefs (above). Verify each Pokémon reaches at least Settled (2×) before scaling.
- Verify Trubbish is not used as a Litter source — pokedex.csv lists its specialty as “Recycle” only. Use Garbodor (Recycle, Litter) if you need a third Litter body.
Alternatives
- Garbodor instead of Muk — pokedex.csv: “Recycle, Litter”; doubles as a recycling-chain body if you’re already running one.
- Charizard instead of Charmeleon — same Burn spec, Squishy clay in match list (id 6); larger size, so verify pokemon_size.csv fit.
- Magmar / Magmortar / Arcanine / Growlithe / Blaziken / Magby / Torchic — all have Squishy clay in match list and Burn spec; drop-in Burn replacements.
- afk_farms.csv “Ore Smelter” (Withered Wastelands, S) — co-locates Soft Clay + Iron Ore so one furnace cluster outputs Bricks AND Iron Ingots; Charmander + Geodude + Machop.
- afk_farms.csv “Brick Factory” (Palette Town, S, late-game) — Machamp/Graveler/Golem/Onix using Crush + Burn + Build on Clay + Limestone + Water; “Kiln district, clay pits nearby”.
- farm_configurations.csv “Clay Brick Farm” (Rocky Ridges, S) — Wooper + Trapinch + Charmander + Pupitar + Concrete Mixer + Humidifier; needs separate small houses to resolve Wooper-humid vs Trapinch-dry conflict.

Missing / future research
- production_chains.csv is absent from /tmp/pokopia-data/ — exact Brick yield per Squishy clay and Burn duration unknown; output left as a formula.
- No per-Pokémon Litter/Gather rate in the on-disk CSVs.
- habitats.csv has no row for “Marsh fishing spot” even though pokedex.csv places Grimer there — exact tile recipe for the marsh habitat is unspecified.
- Trubbish in pokedex.csv is Recycle only, contradicting the brief’s “Trubbish/Grimer/Muk litter Soft/Squishy clay” chain — confirm whether Trubbish has hidden Litter behavior or whether the brief is wrong.
- No size_category cross-check against pokemon_size.csv was performed for Coalossal / Charizard / Muk — verify house fit before building.
